Ben Barker is returning for a third year of competition in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, having confirmed that he will race the #10 Momo-Megatron entry in 2015.
The Briton has been a regular point-scorer since making his debut in the F1 support series in 2013, and built on a promising rookie season by claiming his first podium and finishing in the top ten at each race en route to sixth overall in the 2014 standings. Having helped Verva Lechner Racing to clinch last year’s teams’ title with fourth place in a thrilling Austin finale, Barker now moves over to Momo-Megatron with the aim of leading the American-based squad to similar success.
“It has been a long couple of months putting this together, but now I can confirm the deal – which is fantastic!” Barker said with a mixture of excitement and relief, “My manager and I have been working hard on this and I am delighted to have support, not only from Momo-Megatron, but also my long-time supporter CARS Europe, a newly-signed sponsor in Sacred Coffee and my Le Mans-winning partners at RK Print.”
Barker has already been testing ahead of both his parallel Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Germany programmes, having already revealed that he will contest the latter alongside his main campaign. Despite having packed in three different championships in 2014, as well as selected one-off appearances around the globe, the former Australian F3 champion says he cannot wait to get what promises to be another busy season underway, starting with the PCCG at Hockenheim this past weekend and the opening Supercup round in Barcelona this Friday,Saturday and Sunday.
“My third year in Supercup comes with a healthy fresh ambience and should set me in good stead to fight for the championship, which I endeavour to do!” the 24-year old added, “I am looking forward to working with the team, and with my new engineer.
“With my debut year in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, I should have lots of track time this season, and it is imperative to compete in both series as, not only do they run to the same format with identical cars, but also because 99 per cent of the Supercup field race in both. It makes for a busy year ahead, but I feel as prepared as anything to go and get the results!”
Starting at the Spanish Grand Prix over the weekend of 8-10 May, the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup will follow the F1 world championship throughout its European season before culminating with a return to the spectacular Circuit of the Americas in Texas in late October.
